FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

State Attorney Worrell Announces New Narcotics Unit

The Narcotics Unit focuses on a fair and equitable administration of justice, while protecting public safety and preventing overdose deaths through the investigation and prosecution of high-level trafficking

ORLANDO, FL, November 14, 2021 — Under the leadership of State Attorney Monique H. Worrell, the State Attorney’s Office is proud to announce the development of a newly developed Narcotics Unit. The mission of the Narcotics Unit is to promote a fair and equitable administration of justice, while protecting public safety and preventing overdose deaths through the investigation and prosecution of high-level narcotics trafficking. The increase of fentanyl overdose deaths in our circuit is alarming, and the State Attorney seeks to incapacitate the drug trafficking organizations that are bringing fentanyl into our communities. Targeted prosecutions, as well as alternatives to incarceration, are essential components of an effective strategy to save lives, while differentiating those who suffer from addiction from those seeking to capitalize off the suffering of those who are addicted. With the dissolution of the Osceola County Investigative Bureau (OCIB), the State Attorney looks forward to her continued partnership with the agencies who are and will become part of the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation (MBI). Working alongside law enforcement agencies who have the experience and leadership to continue working collaboratively to ensure that violent drug offenders are investigated thoroughly and prosecuted in accordance with the law is one of the State Attorney’s top priorities.

WHEN: Monday, November 15, 2021 – 10:30AM
WHERE: Osceola County Courthouse – 2 Courthouse Square, Kissimmee, FL 34741
INTERVIEWS: State Attorney Worrell will be available to answer media questions.
